In 1960, the Daihatsu Hijet (Japanese: ダイハツ・ハイゼット, Daihatsu Haizetto) was born. It's a cab over microvan and Kei truck with the modern Hijet imports powered either by a 550cc engine (before 1990) or a 660cc engine (after 1990). There's also a supercharged version available.

The 8th-generation Hijet hit the markets in January 1994 after first being shown at the 30th Tokyo Motor Show in October 1993. It continued to be built until it was replaced by the 9th-generation model in 1999.

Transmission options include a 3-speed automatic or 5-speed manual, and you can choose either an RWD or a selectable 4WD drivetrain version. Like many other Kei Trucks, the Hijet is capable of up to 45 mpg and will provide approximately 40-50 hp depending on model year.
